“I chose Carthage because of the homey atmosphere and small class sizes. The professors were so personable and welcoming. Carthage felt like a place where I could succeed and maximize my potential.”

“Professors at Carthage are really understanding and genuinely care about my success. Many professors are willing to talk to me when I have a question and their openness has made Carthage a great place to be.”

“My favorite class so far was Neuroscience Research Methods and Statistical Analysis, or ‘rat lab.’ I loved researching with the rats — looking at real rat brains was very interesting. I learned a lot about the nervous system, and Professor Dan Miller is the best.”

“My toughest class at Carthage so far was calculus. The class was very difficult and had a lot of complex concepts. Math is not my strong subject, and this was definitely the case here.”

“I’m part of various clubs, including the Pre-Health Club, Neuroscience Club, Carthage Commuters Association, and Nu Rho Psi honors fraternity. I am vice president of the Chemistry Club and Theta Chi Delta honors fraternity.”

“I have been able to be a part of the human neurophysiology research team at Carthage starting my freshman year. This is my third year doing this research, and I am going to Long Beach, California, this year to help present this research at a national conference.”

“As a pre-health student, I have not had any internships; however, I work as a medical assistant at a local independent medical practice in Kenosha during the week. On weekends I work as a phlebotomist at a local hospital in Pleasant Prairie, about 20 minutes from campus. I also volunteer with a local hospice organization in my free time.”

“I hope to go to medical school and become a neurologist.”

“My favorite spot on campus is the first floor of Straz overlooking Lake Michigan. It’s a great spot to chill with friends or get some homework or studying done.”

“Neuroscience at Carthage is amazing! The small class sizes and tight-knit community within the major makes classes engaging. I love rat lab and working with rats. My advice is to take advantage of research opportunities early because the time really does fly by.”

“I think 8-year-old Connor wouldn’t believe me if I told him I would be studying brains and wanting to become a doctor. He would definitely think it was cool and exciting, though!”

“I have been honored to receive the Ralph and Margaret Tenuta Carthage Endowed Scholarship. I also received the Carthage Academic Honors Scholarship. These scholarships have allowed me to pursue my goal of becoming a physician. I am so thankful for these scholarships and grateful to be able to pursue my dream.”
